Acceptance Awareness Program
_ I am most proud of the program I founded in 1993 and
coordinate each year within my school district. Acceptance Awareness Day has
received much recognition in the state of Missouri as a Best Practice Award. AAD
evolved from a sign language art project created to assist in the acceptance of
a deaf student. AAD has exploded into a positive event every September and
started before Character Education and Positive Behavior Support was popular! I continue to be an advocate for disability awareness and help other schools begin a program
and philosophy such as Acceptance Awareness Day. The program has become an
annual event and involves the community, parents, teachers, and students all
working together toward one common goal; acceptance of those hindered by
disabilities.
